How is Your Outdoor Decor?

Article by Hiren Modi

A beautiful yard is like a fabulously decorated home: well thought out, purposefully designed and carefully put together. If the impression your yard gives is as important to you as the interior of your home, you’ll want to invest time and thought into this outdoor extension of your living space. You’ll enjoy the rewards of your efforts for many years – and receive many compliments along the way!

Okay, to start: you’re the landscape architect – pull up a chair and let’s get to work! Let’s start by deciding:

What you want to use the space for.

This can be single or multi-purpose. Talk to everyone in the house and brainstorm together. You may want to keep the entire space in thick, green grass just for putting practice (single-purpose). Or you may want to have a space for the kids and another for adults (multi-purpose). Do you cook outdoors? Want a flower bed? How about an area for your pets?

The other thing that goes hand-in-hand with this is considering what you’re working with.

Is your land flat, hilly, rocky or full of trees?

How much sun/shade does each area get at different times of the day – and will it make a difference for that area’s purpose?

Do you have a noisy neighbor? You probably wouldn’t want to put a meditation corner near them.

Safety should be the first consideration for children’s play areas. Place them away from streets and alleys, don’t position the slide to end in the pond (unless that’s what you want) and keep Fido’s pooh-pooh area far away from their little feet!

Now get out a pencil and paper – or landscaping software – and map out the spaces, keeping in mind the “lay of the land” and other pertinent factors. For now just make general circles or squares to mark the space for each purpose.

What style you want to use.

Is it formal, informal, country, eclectic? And don’t forget to consider what’s already there, like the architecture of the house or the style of existing fencing. Consider the style of existing structures that will stay and how those styles will fit in your plan.

What color palate you’ll use.

Of course you must consider other existing colors: siding and trim on existing buildings and fences, landscaping colors, maybe even the color of a neighbor’s garage if it’s butted up to your yard.

My house is blue with white trim, and that’s what I chose to use for the outdoor decor: my chair cushions are a great blue floral, the stone deck is colored blue-gray and I just planted one of those gorgeous blue hyacinths next to the neighbor’s white fence. Now, I could have gone with a green palate because there’s so much green in the yard already (grass, trees), but that’s just me.

Now comes the fun – uh, I mean the hard part: shopping for everything you need. And color coordinating it. And making sure the styles coordinate. And having friends over to analyze the work (over food and drinks of course). And somehow, somehow managing to hold up under the enormous amount of praise and compliments you’ll receive for your labors.

It’s a tough job. But someone’s got to do it. Might as well be you!

Your outdoor gatherings will never be the same after you set up tiki torches and create some beautiful atmosphere. Additionally, numerous models of home decor and outdoor decor items like curtain rods and outdoor tiki torches for your home or restaurant.

Outdoor Landscape Lighting

Turn your yard into your own high end resort after a long day at the office or during a warm summer night and enjoy your outdoor space more with outdoor lighting.

Outdoor landscape lighting is a cost effective way to emphasize the exterior beauty of your home and the yard surrounding your property. In addition to decorating our outdoor environments with furniture, colorful plants and flowers, we utilize outdoor landscape lighting to bring it all together. Professionally installed outdoor lighting makes homes more appealing and more inviting. Your landscape lighting can enhance the details of the architecture and your hardscape and allows you to enjoy your exterior world even after the sun sets.

Outdoor landscape lighting is widely used for private homes and commercial environment for many reasons. The most important reason is to enhance the aesthetics of the property. It also increases the safety of the property. It is important to contact a professional to select the right type of outdoor lighting fixture for your home. A professional will help you select the right fixture and the best possible locations for your fixtures. The wrong types of fixtures can create additional expenses and undesirable results. In addition, the wrong fixtures might produce glare and other undesired effects.

For example, objects in the environment can bend light in a way that glare and shadows are more problematic. Consult an outdoor lighting professional about which illumination fixture is best for your job and find out valuable information on where the best location may be to set up your new fixture to avoid any undesired results. Outdoor landscape lighting projects can be complex and tedious without consulting a professional.

For many of us, our garden is more often seen at night not only because of our ever-increasing working hours but also because of our long, dark winter. It important to use lighting so that the garden ‘shows’ all year round and is useable at any time. Another benefit is that, lit properly, a garden can look beautiful, throughout the year regardless of the season.

Outdoor landscape lighting is beautiful, but avoid light pollution by making sure that none of your outdoor lights shine directly into a neighbor’s home or garden or are left on while there’s nobody at home to appreciate them.

There are many ways your landscape can benefit from outdoor landscapes light fixtures. Security spotlights and motion detectors can increase safety around your property. Path lights can highlight hidden color and accent surrounding foliage. Outdoor landscape lighting increases home owner appreciation of outdoor living. Professionally planned and installed low-voltage landscape lighting along walkways and near hazards increases home owner and guest safety.

More and more home owners realize the importance of outdoor landscape lighting. Used the right way, outdoor lighting can transform your garden into a magical world of lights and shadows. It not only increases your enjoyment of your property but it also increases safety and security. With outdoor lighting you have the power to turn a dull dark space into an outdoor entertainment area.

‘My Poolside Hawaiian Island Outdoor D?cor’

Having a pool in your backyard opens up dozens of potential fun and “island style” outdoor d?cor themes. When I step out to my pool in the backyard, I get the feeling I am on a vacation right here in my own home. The outdoor d?cor has an “island touch” to it that gives it a Hawaiian feel. You don’t need to spend a lot of money to create this relaxing atmosphere; it can be achieved with just a few accessories.

I completed my backyard transformation for under . I first swapped out the old drab umbrellas for new fluorescent colored grass skirt umbrellas for all the tables and chairs. I pulled out the old torches I had used two years ago and was praying they would work, and all but one was successful. I outlined the pool area with the torches. I walked around the dollar store and found cute brightly colored plates and cups as well as very inexpensive Hawaiian beach towels. While I was at the dollar store, I also grabbed a dozen lei’s to hang around the pool.

The last thing I did was painted my potted plants containers to coordinate the color scheme I managed to start with the new items I bought. This is all it took for my outdoor d?cor transformation.

‘Outdoor d?cor with Lighting’

This is my all time favorite outdoor d?cor, outdoor lighting. Fortunately, there are numerous options to choose from; like?low voltage outdoor lighting, solar garden lights, outdoor deck lighting, and outdoor security lighting, plus outdoor lighting fixtures. But your outdoor football watching living room,?gazebo ideas, and outdoor kitchen and dining room, really becomes breathtaking when it’s a backdrop for all the trendy clean and crisp lighting and special effects you can add.

How about placing inexpensive Tea lights on the tables and deck railings, candles in outdoor chandeliers, tiny strands of lights hung amongst the?trees or around the deck, and torches placed around a pool are all examples of ambient lighting. Both rice paper and vinyl?Japanese lanterns diffuse light and create a relaxing and festive mood. Outdoor d?cor lighting is fun to explore and create with. You will notice that your friends and neighbors spending much more time in your backyard than ever before.

‘Extreme Outdoor D?cor’

As I was writing for this current project on outdoor d?cor, I was abruptly reminded of a home I used to know back in New Jersey, where I used to live. This home really sticks out in my mind. The house was a small yellow ranch and sat on a fairly busy road across from a strip mall. The strip mall contained several businesses; a grocery store, pizza parlor, a home improvement store, clothing store, a dry cleaners and a Burger King. No matter what time of day, there was always traffic passing by this ranch style home. Every car that passed by this house had to twist their neck to get a good long stare at the property, preferably the outdoor decor.

This home owner’s front yard was jam packed with outdoor d?cor. These outdoor decorations were not placed in a manner that most people would utilize them in. This man had hundreds of the standup plastic molded electric light up characters that most people put out at Christmas and other holidays. There was barely any room in between each item to be able to walk amongst the decor. Those lights were turned on every time I drove by, he never missed a day. We are all different in this world and many march to a different drummer than others.
